The Horn of Africa Regional Environment Centre and Network (HoAREC&N), the lead implementing partner of the Mobility, Environment, Climate Change in East and Horn of Africa (MECMEA) Project, co-hosted the High-Level Policy Dialogue on Mobility, Environment and Climate Change in the East and Horn of Africa, held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on 24–25 June 2026. Jointly convened by the Mixed Migration Centre (MMC) and the African Union Commission (AUC), the dialogue brought together governments, regional organizations, civil society, academia, and development partners to strengthen policy responses to climate-related mobility. Discussions focused on climate mobility trends, disaster preparedness, climate adaptation, and climate security. The event marked the launch of the MECMEA Data Dashboard and Country Briefs, and strategies for translating research into policy action. Through the MECMEA Project, HoAREC&N reaffirmed its commitment to promoting evidence-based policymaking, regional collaboration, and innovative solutions that enhance resilience and sustainable development across the East and Horn of Africa.
The MECMEA Project (Managing the Impacts of Environmental Change and Conflict on Mobility in Eastern Africa) is led by the Horn of Africa Regional Environment Centre and Network (HoAREC&N) in partnership with the Mixed Migration Centre (MMC), Association Djibouti Nature (ADN), the South Sudan Nature Conservation Organization (SSNCO), and PanAfricare Kenya.
