HoA-REC&N Hosts Regional Workshop to Develop Environmental Initiative for Climate-Resilient and Migration Sensitive communities in Eastern Africa
26 October 2026 | Regional Proposal Development Workshop
The Horn of Africa Regional Environment Centre and Network (HoA-REC&N), through the MECMEA project, is conducting a five-day REISEA Regional Proposal Writing Workshop from 26–30 October 2026 in Malindi, Kenya.
The workshop brings together MECMEA partners and selected national thematic experts, including MECMEA alumni, country and regional experts, and relevant stakeholders from Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, Tanzania, Burundi, and Uganda to develop a regional proposal for the Regional Environmental Initiative for Climate-Resilient and Migration-Sensitive Communities in Eastern Africa (REISEA).
Participants are reviewing regional evidence, prioritizing climate-related mobility hotspots, and developing practical interventions to address climate change, environmental degradation, conflict, and human mobility. The workshop aims to produce a draft regional proposal, including a results framework, partnership arrangements, and an indicative budget.
The activity contributes to MECMEA Output 3.3, promoting partnerships and practical programmes addressing climate mobility across Eastern Africa.
MECMEA Project is led by HoA-REC&N at Addis Ababa University, in collaboration with Mixed Migration Centre (MMC), Association Djibouti Nature (AND), South Sudan Nature Conservation Organization (SSNCO), and PanAfricare – Kenya. The project is funded by the European Union (EU) and contracted by the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) through the MMD Grant Facility.
