Maintaining functional ecosystems for building sustainable resilience in the Horn of Africa
A call for Collective Action
The Horn of Africa Regional Environment Centre and Network (HoA-REC&N) will be organizing the 9th annual Horn of Africa Regional Environment meeting (HoA-REM IX) from July 7 to 13th 2024 in Nairobi, Kenya. HoA-REM IX will be organized under the theme
“Maintaining Functional Ecosystems for Building Sustainable Resilience in the Horn of Africa: A call for Collective Action”.
A total of 140 participants drawn from academic institutions, civil society organizations, private sector, regional institutions, various international development partners and diplomatic communities are anticipated to attend the meeting.
The meeting will consist of four significant events, which include:
- Annual Project Progress Review Meeting (ARM) for the Horn of Africa Environmental Sustainability and Resilience (HoA-ESR) Project.
- HoA-REM (Plenary on Regional Environmental Issues).
- HoA-REN Regional Council Meeting (HoA-REN-RCM).
- Horn of Africa Regional Environment Meeting (HoA-REM).
ANTICIPATED RESULTS
- Clear vision and framework for regional collaboration
- Consensus, harmony and more cooperation
- Policy options and recommendations to combat biodiversity degradation and Ecological disturbance in a more concerted way across the Horn region
- Pledges, multilateral and bilateral funding opportunities
- Critical comments, concept notes, and ideas for bankable projects
- Policy brief/communiqué collectively drafted and disseminated to raise awareness
