Nairobi, Kenya
The Horn of Africa Environmental Sustainability and Resilience (HoA-ESR) Project Regional Capacity Building Training Programme officially commenced on 13 July 2026 in Nairobi, Kenya, bringing together professionals from across the Horn of Africa to strengthen institutional and professional capacities for sustainable environmental management and development.
The ten-day programme, running from 13–22 July 2026, is organized by the Horn of Africa Regional Environment Centre & Network (HoA-REC&N) in collaboration with the South Rift Association of Land Owners (SORALO), with generous support from the Government of Sweden through the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida).
The Regional Capacity Building Training Programme is designed to strengthen participants’ knowledge and practical skills through three specialized training tracks, each tailored to the needs of a specific group of participants:
- Financial Management – for Finance Experts
- Project Cycle Management (PCM) and Communicating Project Impacts – for Project Managers, Programme Officers, and Technical Professionals
- Finance for Non-Finance Managers – for Managers and Professionals without a Finance Background
The opening session began with participant registration and introductions, providing an opportunity for participants from partner institutions across the region to network, exchange experiences, and establish professional connections.

Participants were welcomed by John Kamanga of the South Rift Association of Land Owners (SORALO), followed by a programme overview presented by John Moi Venus Ajigo. The training was officially opened by Prof. George Owiti, President of the Horn of Africa Regional Environment Network (HoA-REN), who underscored the importance of strengthening institutional capacity and fostering regional collaboration to advance environmental sustainability and resilience across the Horn of Africa.

Throughout the programme, participants will engage in expert-led sessions, practical exercises, and peer-to-peer knowledge sharing aimed at enhancing financial management, project planning and implementation, communication of project impacts, organizational accountability, and leadership skills. The training also provides a valuable platform for strengthening regional partnerships and promoting the exchange of knowledge and best practices among institutions working toward sustainable environmental management and development.
