CABES East Africa Sub-Regional Workshop under a banner of “Road to a Desired Future: the IPBES Nature Futures Framework and Science-Policy-Practice Interface for Vision 2050”

The Horn of Africa Regional Environment Center and Network in Addis Ababa University (www.hoarec.org), together with its partners in West Africa, Central Africa and the University of Bonn-ZEF in Germany, is organizing the CABES East African sub-regional workshop, which will take place from 8-9 November, 2023, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. CABES (www.cabes.online) is a capacity development initiative for biodiversity and ecosystem services experts aimed at developing and strengthening the capacity of professionals in biodiversity and related fields in West, East and Central Africa sub-regions to effectively engage them in the IPBES work programs (www.ipbes.net). CABES promotes knowledge exchanges and fosters cross-border collaboration amongst multi-stakeholder groups including researchers, practitioners from the public and private sectors, as well as CSOs and ILK holders. CABES is supported by the International Climate Initiative (IKI) of the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV). The workshop will be attended by high level experts, national focal points of IPBES, international experts, private sector representatives and ILK holders from over 40 countries and international organizations.

The workshop provides an opportunity to discuss various issues under a banner of “Road to a Desired Future: the IPBES Nature Futures Framework and Science-Policy-Practice Interface for Vision 2050”, with the aim of familiarizing the participants with the newly released IPBES products such as the Nature Futures Framework, Invasive Alien Species and the CABES-SPIBES capacity building program towards achieving vision 2050, locally, nationally and regionally.
