The AAU Community led by the interim-President of the University, Dr. Samuel Kifle, has conducted planting of indigenous tree seedlings in the Gullele Botanic Garden this morning. The University management members, deans of colleges, directors, academic and administrative staff members have participated in the planting campaign. In his message to the community, Dr. Samuel expressed the University’s commitment in achieving the Green Legacy initiative and praised the University community for the active participation in the annual planting campaigns. The University has mobilized its staff and the community at large to take the leading role in meeting the ambitious national goal. He also remarked that the day’s event is historical in bringing millions of Ethiopians to a noble cause of “planting 600 Million seedlings in a single day”. This is a grand achievement not only to the current generation but also for many generations to come. He said “we are building a nation that will ensure self-sufficiency and become resilient to natural and economic challenges”.  The event was joint organized by the Community Service Directorate of the University in collaboration with the Horn of Africa Regional Environment Center and Network, and the Gullele Botanic Garden.
