HoA-REC actively participated and contributed to the successful celebration of the World Environment Day on June 5, 2021. Dr. Mekuria has been invited by the Environment, Forest and Climate Change Commission to take part as a panelist at the National WED celebration event that took place in Hawassa. Dr. Mekuria delivered a talk on “Ecosystems Restoration and Public Participation: Challenges and Opportunities in Ethiopia”

Mr. John Moi Venus Ajjugo was invited by the PHE (Population, Environment and Health) to represent HoA-REC in the World Environment Day, 2021 Celebration that was held in Addis Ababa. Mr. John delivered a talk on ‘Ecosystems and Sustainable well-being’. The talk sought to show the linkages between ecosystems and human well-being as expressed in ecosystems goods and services; how the global efforts have fallen short of bending the curve of biodiversity loss and went on to show how national and regional landscape initiatives of HoA-REC&N funded by SIDA have demonstrated a great promise of addressing environmental challenges through collaboration and partnerships with non-state actors; and the need to further strengthen this through Action Agenda of the Post-2020 Biodiversity Framework in the offing and other Multilateral Environmental Agreements and commitments (See https://fb.watch/62QJ3t9YiI/)
