BISHOFTU – December 2025 (HoAREC&N) – The National Biodiversity Platform of Ethiopia (NBP-Ethiopia) convened its 2025 annual review meeting on December 30, 2025, in Bishoftu. The meeting brought together members of the NBP Executive Committee and representatives from the three sub-committees reviewed and reflected on the Platform’s achievements and its performance over the year in detail.

Welcoming participants, the General Director of EBI and Chair of the NBP, Dr. Karta Kaske, stated that the Platform plays a pivotal role in conserving the country’s biodiversity by bringing together the science, indigenous knowledge holders, and policymakers to strengthen biodiversity conservation and enhance ecosystem services. The General Director further expressed appreciation to the Executive Committee of the platform as well as the members of the Platform and stakeholders for their valuable contributions and dedication in establishing and strengthening the Platform.

The Deputy Director-General of EBI and Secretary of the Platform, Dr. Abiyot Birhanu presented the 2025 annual report in detail, highlighting the key achievements and the challenges encountered during the reporting period. Dr. Abiyot emphasized the critical need for consistent and active participation from Executive Committee and sub-committee members and stakeholders to effectively achieving the objectives of the NBP and reinforcing the Platform’s initiatives moving forward. Participants noted that the consolidated annual report clearly reflected the major achievements of the planned activities for the year, and highlighted the challenges faced in implementing the annual activity plan. They underscored the importance of consolidating related reports from sectoral institutions and regional offices to ensure comprehensive reporting and improved coordination.

Participants also emphasized the need for a more proactive approach to resource mobilization in the future to strengthen implementation and achieve the targets set by the Platform.
