Students Discuss Climate Change and Sustainability in Ethiopia

A group of 60 students from schools across Addis Ababa met at the Horn of Africa Regional Environment Headquarters to discuss climate change and sustainability in Ethiopia. Held on 5th August 2016, the discussion sought to improve students’ understanding of global climate change and its impacts on local communities. The students deliberated on, amongst others, the significance of climate change in Ethiopia’s history of drought and famine, the effects of climate change on Ethiopian biodiversity, and the need for engagement to mitigate the impact of climate change A group of 60 students from schools across Addis Ababa met at the Horn of Africa Regional Environment Headquarters to discuss climate change and sustainability in Ethiopia. During a guided tour on the premises of HoA-RECN’s headquarters’ the students were introduced to the work of the Centre and the significance of the Headquarters to the environment as a green building. The event was part of a three-day program organized by Qine Association for Promoting Education Quality (QAPEQ). This is a student association that aims to improve the quality of education in Ethiopia through the increased involvement of students as primary beneficiaries of education.
