November 26, 2025The Horn of Africa Regional Environment Centre and Network, Addis Ababa University (HoA-REC&N-AAU) is a peculiar regional organization established to bridge the gap between policy, knowledge and practice in environmental matters of the Horn of Africa region. The organization is serving as a regional multi-stakeholder platform of knowledge exchange whereby academia, policy-decision makers and practitioners convene to promote environmental conservation and natural resources management. It also facilitates collaboration as well as strengthens and advocates for sustainable development and environmental governance across the Horn of Africa.
HoA-REC&N-AAU has a broad goal of curbing the increasing trend of environmental degradation caused by mismanagement and conflicts that is aggravated by climate change, lack of coordination and collaboration to restore degraded ecosystems and to ensure sustainable use of natural resources by supporting local communities to transform their livelihoods, to cope with their changing physical environment in the Horn of Africa countries. This is done by strengthening capacity, raising environmental awareness, improving environmental governance and policy throughout the region by facilitating and stimulating practical and demand driven action research to address societal problems. HoA-REC&N is, thus, seeking to hire Senior Accountant and Driver-Mechanic to support the realisation of its organizational goals.
1. Position : Senior Accountant
Duty station : Addis Ababa
Duration : On contract basis (with extension upon professional performance)
Salary : As per the scale of the Centre
Number : One
Reports to : Finance Manager
II. Job Summary
The Senior Accountant is responsible to analyze the financial transactions, prepare accurate and timely financial reports and statements; ensure that the financial records are maintained in compliance with accepted financial policies and procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Coordinates, prepares and reviews year-end closing process of the Center.
2. Completes and submits consolidated reports as deliverables to stakeholders.
3. Prepares project and program financial reports, consistent with donors and the Center’s procedural and reporting requirements.
4. Analyzes financial information to recommend or develop efficient use of resources.
5. Prepares variance analysis and explanations to managerial actions.
6. Prepares foreign currency transactions analysis and its impact on financial results.
7. Pledges receivable or potential grants and debts.
8. Analyzes revenue and expenditure trends and recommend appropriate budget levels, and ensure expenditure control.
9. Coordinates the development of budgets; provides technical assistance and information in budget preparation, implementation, and control.
10. Assists external auditors by providing information to them to ensure that fiduciary responsibilities are maintained.
11. Undertakes all other related duties as may be required and as assigned.
III. Job Specifications
Education: BA/MBA/MA Degree in Accounting and Finance or related field of studies.
Special training: Competence in MS Office and ERP
Experience: 7/5 years of relevant work experience
2. Position : Driver – Mechanic
Duty station : Addis Ababa and frequent travel to the regions
Duration : On contract basis (with extension upon professional performance)
Salary : As per the scale of the Centre
Number : one
Reports to : Manager, HR & ADM.
I. Job Summary
The Driver – Mechanic is responsible to provide appropriate transport service to the concerned party in accordance with the fleet order and all vehicle service & maintenance of the center.
II. Duties and Responsibilities
- Drives office vehicles for the transport of authorized personnel and collects mail, documents and other items from the required destination.
- Conducts security checks before departure such as lights, battery, engine and brake, oil, wipers, and other items for proper functioning.
- Schedules regular car service appointments and report any issues on time.
- Performs regular service and arranges for other repairs and ensures that the vehicle is kept clean.
- Practice safe driving habit and ensures that required rules and regulations are taken care of in case of accident.
- Meets official personnel at the airport and facilitates immigration and customs formalities as required.
- Undertakes all other related duties as may be required and assigned.
III. Education: 12th Grade complete plus TVET- 10+3
IV. Relevant Work Experience: 3 years as Driver-Mechanic (preferably with donor-based organizations).
V. Skills:
- 3rd Grade Driving License
- Automotive background is a must
- Knowledge of computer and MS-applications and email communication
- Active in verbal communication
- Good knowledge of the English language
- Efficient in time management is an asset
