Officials to inaugurate the Integrated Land use Plan for Gambella People’s National Regional State (GPNRS)
The Addis Ababa University – Horn of Africa Regional Environment Centre and Network (AAU-HoA-REC&N) has been working in the development of an Integrated Urban and Rural Land use and Development Plan (ILDP) for Gambella People’s National Regional State (GPNRS) in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) and the GPNRS. The tripartite engagement was framed on the basis of the signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and the Common Framework of Engagement (CFE).
The Ministry of Agriculture had a leading role in the overall ILDP planning process. Chaired by the State Minister of MoA, the Federal Steering Committee has been involved in reviewing, agreeing upon, or endorsing the ILDP goals and plan outputs with reference to Federal and Regional policies, laws and priorities. Similarly, the Federal Technical Committee had been evaluating and approving the periodic planning outputs.
AAU-HoA-RC&N has completed the ILDPs of the Gambella region, its three zones, special Woreda of Itang, as well as urban land use plans of the 4 zones/woreda capitals and two strategic towns of GPNRS. Recently, the completed comprehensive rural and urban ILDPs were approved by the GPNRS council and respective authorities. They are now made ready for the final inauguration.
Accordingly, HoA-REC&N will hold a one day workshop to officially inaugurate these comprehensive ILDPs and share the achievements and experience of the ILDP process towards strengthening the multi-disciplinary and inter-regional efforts. This would play an exemplary role for the national level ILDPs which are being promoted.
The one-day inauguration workshop that will be held on 21 February 2020 at Elilly International Hotel in Addis Ababa starting 8:30 a.m., will be attended by high-level government officials ministers, commissioners, relevant respective authorities, delegates from Donors and Embassies, relevant experts from all regions and other invited guests. The workshop includes presentations, discussion, and showcases of the deliverables of the ILDP planning process.
